Welcome

Do you dream of shoving off, leaving safe harbors and creating a little wake?!

So did we. Now, we’d like to share our story and our passion for travel boating with you!

Some people are totally content with life on land. They are happiest with both feet planted steadily onshore. These are the folks that ask, “wouldn’t it be faster to drive?”

But, boating can be for anyone. It is more than a mode of transportation, it’s a attitude, a culture, a story and often a lesson. Skills and experience come over time, but to become a boater is to hit the water and adopt the boater’s spirit.

In the spring of 2009, my sister and I were preparing to depart on the scariest, most exciting, and longest trip of our lives. We traded work, school, and regular responsibility for 3 months of travel around the United States and Canada via 6,000 miles of waterway know as the Great Loop. We saw parts of the country we’d never seen, met the most interesting characters, and put our boating skills and courage to the test. Read our journal.

When it was all over, we were happy to be home and very appreciated of a roof and dry beds.

Every year, as summer creeps closer, we begin to miss the water, the sweat, and the 16-foot open-hull Duroboat we called home for one life changing summer. This blog is to help us (and you) explore the possibilities of travel boating. Where to go? What to see? And, ways to make the journey amazing!
